Whilst not infrared, photographers, such as the immensely talented Ansel Adams, often used red colour filters to bring out details and contrast in landscape photography. What if we go beyond that with infrared?

Living in a very digital, communication heavy world; escapism is essential to our survival and mental health. All sorts of medium provide this but photography is very often used to capture the moment, as documentation of the current time, a journey or a person. I therefore wanted to use the medium of photography to create odd, unrealistic but beautiful worlds.

What would the current world look like in an alternate reality? This is what drew me towards infrared photography. Infrared is an entire spectrum of light that we are not capable of seeing, contrast and tone differences pop extrude differently than they do with visible light.

People often assimilate infrared photography with heat cameras, and whilst this is one possible use of infrared, infrared photography was in fact widely used for aerial reconnaissance during World War 1 as it could bring out details of camouflaged buildings, vehicles and weapons when they would have all been indistinguishable in visible light.

Nowadays, infrared photography can be done using low end digital cameras, as they do not block infrared light fully, therefore blocking visible light from reaching the camera's sensor allows one to capture photos in the infrared spectrum but only with a very long exposure time.
